A master American painter, printmaker and sculptor, Robert Indiana is widely recognized as one of the leading founders of American Pop art. He is known worldwide for his bold iconic images of graphic numbers and letters; the most famous are his LOVE paintings and sculptures.

Indiana's work often consists of bold, simple images, especially short words like EAT, HUG and, his best-known example, LOVE. Indiana's iconic work LOVE was created for a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art in 1964, and, in 1973, became the first image in the United States Postal Service’s series of "love stamps." Sculptural versions of the image have been installed at numerous American and international locations.

In 1977, Indiana created a Hebrew version if LOVE with the four letter word Ahava (אהבה "love" in Hebrew) using Cor-ten steel for the Israel Museum Art Garden in Jerusalem, Israel. In 1993, Barry Molinar commissioned Indiana to create a serigraph of Ahava in the colors of the flag of the State of Israel.

In Barry’s words, “When I discussed with Robert creating an edition of serigraphs based on his monumental sculpture gracing the Jerusalem museum, I sent him the Israeli flag so he could see the precise colors. He immediately agreed to do the project. We sold out the edition in 30 days, or so we thought. But we recently found a wrapped packet of 8 pristine Ahavas in our print archives.”

The edition size is 150. The dimensions are 33”x31”. Each print is signed by Indiana, titled, numbered, and dated 5753, the Hebrew year (1993).

We're making the final arrangements for Scott to be here on May 8 and 9. Not only will he be sharing his irresistable piece "Can You Come Out to Play?" but many new pieces.

Scott is the creator of the never-to-be-forgotten "American Gayothic." Right now, he's in the midst of painting "Alesbian Gothic" and will be unveiling the original painting for the first time on May 8 at the opening event. The demand will be fierce, we know.

We are absolutely thrilled to be featuring Sharon Gordon. Sharon's work is nothing less than stunning. Sharon, who lives in Syracuse, N.Y., has studied in the U.S. and in Italy and her abstract oil paintings look as though they are illuminated from within.

I've been following Sharon's work for years, especially when it was featured in Provincetown, MA. Never did I think that we would be lucky enough - and established enough - to have Sharon actually seek Sirani Gallery out as a place to show her work. Once we met her, we loved her. That light in her paintings - it comes from inside of her too.

Sharon is in many galleries and private and public collections. Her work has received critical acclaim and has a very popular appeal as well. In fact, her unsigned, open edition giclee prints are available through the Ballard Design Catelog and also at Crate and Barrel. The paintings at the gallery are all original oils. MIRA RAMAN, WORLD RENOWNED ISRAELI ARTIST, TO BE FEATURED AT SIRANI GALLERY

Israeli artist Mira Raman will be visiting Sirani Gallery and presenting her collection on February 20 and 21, 2010. Meet the artist on Saturday, February 20 from 11 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday, February 21 from 12 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mira will present a gallery talk on Saturday, February 20 at 5:30. There also will be a brunch reception, by RSVP only, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday, which will include a gallery talk.

Mira’s entire body of work will be on display while she is visiting Pittsburgh, directly from Israel. We are only one of five stops on Mira’s exclusive tour of the U.S. which includes the Boca Raton Museum Show, Key West Arts Center Annual Art Show, the Artists Association of Palm Springs Exhibition and the Chicago Moriah Congregation Biennial Judaica Exhibition, a juried exhibition known to be one of the finest in the country.

In her art, Mira shares a magical world filled with whimsy and joy. She combines acrylic paint with handmade paper to create beautiful domestic interiors and gardens that are filled with not only beautiful flowers, but also bunnies, bikes, balloons and other icons of happiness.

Mira herself explains that from a very young age, she “would sail away on an imaginary voyage, which I filled with the places and things I found in the magazines. I created little stories and, by freeing them from their paper prisons, I was convinced in my head that I was enabling them to take off - and become part of the real world." Today her imaginary places fill one with wonder and happiness. They have to bring a smile to your face.
